The Padres suffered a tough loss to the Pirates in 12 innings on Monday night, that was made even more painful because both the Phillies and Diamondbacks had lost earlier. After falling behind 2-0, the Padres fought back, and tied the game on a 2-out RBI-single in the bottom of the 8th inning by Jake Cronenworth following a tremendous 8-pitch at-bat. After a scoreless 9th inning, Adrian Morejon did not allow a run to score in the top of the 10th, but the Padres weren't able to capitalize. Making his Padres debut, Dustin Harris led off the inning by bunting the ball in the air while trying to advance the runner, and not only popped out, but the Pirates caught the ball and quickly threw to second to double off Luis Campusano, who broke towards third base. Morejon returned to pitch the 11th, and tossed another scoreless frame, giving the Padres another chance to walk it off with a base hit. For the second consecutive inning, the Padres led off by popping out on a sacrifice-bunt attempt, with Jake Cronenworth being the culprit this time. Manny Machado and Ty France each drew walks to load the bases with one out, but Jackson Merrill struck out and Xander Bogaerts then flew out to center to end the inning. After the Pirates drove in their lead runner in the 12th, Austin Hays, Luis Campusano and Dustin Harris each struck out in the bottom of the inning to end the game. Michael King will square off against Paul Skenes on Tuesday.
