Amid a pandemic, area high school football coaches and players eagerly wait for the debut of the 2020 season. Pre-virus, the season was scheduled to kick off in just 3 days. However, we are still 21 days away from our first football practice of the season. The Byrnes Rebels (ESPN Upstate's Broadcast School) are slated to open up the 2020 season in a huge region matchup against the Spartanburg Vikings. With only 2 region teams making the playoffs, these early region games are monumental.
Even with a start date approved by the South Carolina High School Leauge, there are still many questions concerning the upcoming season. Will fans be allowed to attend the games? If so, how many? Who has responsibilty to monitor social distancing if fans do attend? What will happen if a player tests positive for the virus? Does college football have any weight on what the SCHSL does? As with the coronavirus, there are many un-answered questions regarding the upcoming season. The one thing we do know is that it will be challenging and we will be in unprecedented times.
Area teams will kick off on September 25th with the following schedule:
Woodruff at ChapmanByrnes at SpartanburgClinton at Union CountyLandrum BYEBoiling Springs at GaffneyGreer at GreenvilleDorman at RiversideChesnee at Legion AcademyEmerald at BroomeMauldin at Hillcrest
