Braves finding absolute worst ways to give games away

San Francisco Giants second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald (49) slides into home to score the walk-off winning run on a wild pitch by Atlanta Braves pitcher Pierce Johnson (38) during the tenth inning at Oracle Park.

Another weekend passes, another series lost for the Atlanta Braves. The Braves were swept by the San Francisco Giants over the weekend, and in the ugliest ways possible. It is not like the Braves are out there getting over-powered by teams, as five of the six in the current losing streak were all one-run games. What is even worse is that the Braves have lost all ten of their last one-run games. One-run games happen often, and usually if a team has a winning record in these games, they are having a decent season. But the Braves are far from having a winning record in one-run games, and are not having a decent season, and at this point they are not any good at all.

Maybe this is not the Braves season. It could just be a bad season. But I find that hard to believe with the way that they just cannot finish games. Friday night they lost in extra innings on a wild pitch. Saturday night they lose on a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth. Sunday they had the game-tying run on base in the ninth, and could not even put a ball in play, with the game ending on an effortless strikeout. It has been a frustrating season to say the least, and if they want to turn it around, they have to get started immediately. I just don’t know if that is possible at this point unless they make a move to improve the bullpen immediately. At least there still 100 games left, right? Let’s just hope that the last 100 are not as “entertaining” as the first 60. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael discuss the 2025 Braves, and how close they should be to re-thinking the season entirely.
