Chiefs edge Bills in OT of "Instant Classic"

The Kansas City Chiefs kept their Super Bowl return hopes alive. KC edged Buffalo at Arrowhead in an OT thriller 42-36. It was a competitive game between two evenly matched teams. The two teams battled all night long, with the game being tied at 7-7 after the 1st. Both teams were able to put together early TD drives.

That theme continued in the 2nd quarter and the game was tied 14-14 at the half. KC scored 9 straight to open the 2nd half. That gave them a their largest lead of the game at 23-14. Buffalo answered with a TD drive and KC led 23-21 after three.

That set the stage for an epic 4th quarter. KC got a field goal with 8:55 left to extend their lead to 26-21. With 1:54 left in the game Gabriel Davis had a TD catch to put the Bills up 29-26 after they converted the 2 point try. That was the first of 4 combined scores down the stretch. The Chiefs hit a big play in the passing game, as Mahomes found Tyreek Hill for a 64 yard TD strike. That put KC up 33-29 with 1:04 to go. Josh Allen led the Bills on a scoring drive again finding Davis for a TD (a recurring theme in the game). The Bills were up 36-33 with 13 seconds left. The Chiefs then got into field goal range, setting up a 49 yard FG that went through to tie the game at 36 and send it to OT.

In OT, Mahomes found Travis Kelce for the game winning TD. It was a match up with elite QB's on display for both sides. Mahomes went 33 of 44 for 378 yards and 3 TD's. He also ran for 69 yards and a score on 7 carries. Josh Allen was 27 of 37 for 329 yards and 4 TD's. Allen ran for 68 yards on 11 carries. Bills WR Gabriel Davis was uncoverable in the game, he went for 201 yards on 8 catches, 4 of his 8 catches went for TD's. Tyreek Hill made big plays in both the passing game and special teams. Hill had 11 catches for 150 yards and a TD, he also had a 45 yard punt return to set up a KC score.

The Chiefs are now one step away from going back to the Super Bowl. Kansas City will host Cincinnati in the AFC Title game Sunday for a 3 PM Eastern kickoff.
