North GA Wrestlers clash vs. cancer to help one of their own

The 7 Foot Monster Tower (Upstate native_ in action in Cornelia

Mark Pelfrey

This past weekend saw a group of North Georgia wrestlers come together to help one of their own. Zachary Oglesby who wrestles as "The Monster" Zee Williams and his family have been clashing against cancer. His mother Regina, a single mom of three from North Georgia has been battling Colon Cancer.

A benefit wrestling show was held for the family in Cornelia, GA this past Saturday to help with medical expenses. The card featured a triple threat match main event, a battle royal with over a dozen competitors and three other matches. Cornelia has been for years, a strong hold for independent wrestling.

The opening contest featured Upstate South Carolina talent, as longtime manager Pete Zimmerman returned to a town he had worked regularly in the main events in years past. Along his side was Upstate based veteran wrestler "The War Machine" Jon Hogan who was also making his return. His opponent was Cade Powers another Upstate native who has been one of the top wrestlers on the independents in Georgia, for a while now. I was roped into managing Powers after airing a grievance with Pete Zimmerman publicly.

Opening match- Both men brought it and it was hard hitting and physical. Hogan looked good in his return to wrestling, his 1st match in a few years. The match had a feel of the old school, "personal issues" type feel. After a back and forth, hard hitting bout, Powers got caught with a short arm lariat for the three count. Your winner by pinfall- "War Machine" Jon Hogan.

Zackary Blane vs Chris Chambers- Blane is a veteran on the Gorgia indy circuit and is an impressive athlete. He looks the part and blends size (6ft2 220) and athletic ability. Chambers is still a young guy but has been wrestling since he's been old enough to be booked. He's undersized but is scrappy and works hard in his matches. Eventually, Blane's size and strength advantage overcame Chambers. Your winner- Zackary Blane by pinfall.

Tag Team Action- Bad Omen is the tag team of Tower and Big, Bad Brando. Tower is an Upstate native as well and has been one of the great bad guys for independent promotions across Georgia for years. The 7 footer teams with "The Southern Superheavyweight" Big, Bad Brando. The two men weigh in at a combined weight of over 750 pounds. They took on the Kaged Outlaws (Brandon Kage and Tyler Veach). The Outlaws were given up over 350 pounds in the contest. Bad Omen took control of the match early and kept control for most of the match. The Outlaws showed their toughness, but were overwhelmed by Bad Omen who finished their opponents with a double team maneuver. Winners- Bad Omen

Battle Royal- A Dozen wrestlers were involved- Dynamic Dexter, Captain David Walker, Zyla Belle, Taco Grande, Gio Vice, Cade Powers, War Machine, "The Assassin" Jason Black, Zachary Blane, Manson, Marcus Adams. The young guys, the trainees in the match really impressed me. Those guys worked hard and performed in their opportunity. Dexter was a hit with the kids like always. He hit some of his usual offense, hit the Unicorn Buster in the corner etc. Manson pulled a smart heel move by powdering out early after coming in #1. More on that later. Hogan and Cade both hit power and high impact moves in the battle royal. Jason Black was really good in this too, I thought. Cade was eliminated, so he lost twice on this night. Talking to him wasn't enough after the 1st loss evidently. So I went down and gave him a couple kicks and a slap to the head to hold him accountable. If I manage someone losing is not acceptable, especially with how much help I gave him in that 1st match. I stomped on him and it lit a fire under Cade Powers and he shoved me halfway across the building. I picked up a chair to go after him because now I knew I had woken up the fire within Cade Powers. Manson reappeared later in this match and was able to win it after disappearing after early in the match. Your winner- Manson

Main Event Triple Threat Match- Bobby Popham vs Monster Zee vs Marcus Adams. Popham is a legit trained combat athlete and martial arts instructor. His in-ring style mirrors that which for those of who like realism, he brings that with him. It was Zee's 1st match in quite some time and he had trained hard for the return bout. Zee did not show any signs of rust in his return. He was able to hit some of his signature type moves in the match. Marcus Adams is a veteran on the circuit and is a very good in-ring worker. This match was tremendous, one of the highlights were the "rolling" three-man simultaneous submission holds. As the match wore on, all three men you could see were in great ring shape. Zee got an extra burst late, as he used the emotions of the night as momentum. Zee hit his trademark cannon ball move in the corner. Your winner- "The Monster" Big Zee.

At the end of the night, the event raised a four-figure amount to help bolster the Oglesby family, in their time of need.
