
#1 Georgia turned in a dominant performance thumping 14th ranked Clemson 34-3 in Atlanta, Saturday. The Tiger offense struggled as Georgia held them to just 189 total yards and less than 50 on the ground.
The Bulldogs were overpowering at the line of scrimmage averaging over 6 yards per carry on offense, while holding Clemson to just 2 yards per tote. Georgia outgained Clemson 169-47 on the ground.
The Clemson defense was solid early but was on the field for nearly 33 minutes and fell victim to fatigue late in the 2nd half.
It was a stalemate after a scoreless first quarter, as both defenses were locked in in the 1st half. Georgia struck 1st with a 6 minute drive that ended with a 2nd quarter Field Goal. The Bulldogs added another Peyton Woodring Field Goal with 4:15 left in the 1st half. Georgia then took a 6-0 lead into the break.
To open the 2nd half, Georgia engineered a 75 yard TD drive scoring on a 7 yard TD pass from Carson Beck to Colbie Young. Georgia then took a 13-0 lead. Clemson answered with their lone points of the game. The Tigers best drive of the game went for 66 yards and ended in a Field Goal from Nolan Hauser to make it 13-3.
Georgia then responded with a 75 yard drive that was capped off by a 1 yard Nate Frazier TD run. That gave the Bulldogs a commanding 20-3 lead after 3 quarters. Georgia would add two more touchdowns in the 4th to make the final score, 34-3.
Clemson QB Cade Klubnik was 18 of 29 for 142 yards and an interception. Georgia QB Carson Beck was 23 of 33 for 278 yards and 2 TD's.
The Tigers are back in action this Saturday as they host Appalachian State. That game is set for an 8PM kickoff on the SEC Network. Georgia is 1-0 and will have their home opener as well this coming week. The Dogs host Tennessee Tech in Athens Saturday for a 2 PM kickoff.
The 31 point thumping is the 3rd worst loss for the Tigers in the last 13 years. Clemson lost by 37 to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl to cap the 2011 season. They also lost by that same margin at home to Florida State in 2013.
