The World Title defense for the Atlanta Braves came to an end on Saturday in Philadelphia. The Braves fell 8-3 to the homestanding Phillies and were eliminated in the NLDS by a count of three games to one.
Atlanta dropped the opening game of the series, but bounced back in game two getting a 3-0 shutout win to even the series. The series then shifted to Philly and the Braves dropped games three and four in the City Of Brotherly Love.
In game four, the Phillies got two or more hits from five different players. Philly would strike first, getting three runs in the 2nd to lead 3-0. Atlanta platted one in the 3rd and Philadelphia got one in their half of the 3rd. That made it a 4-1 game, Atlanta would get another run in the 4th, when Matt Olson hit a solo homer to make it 4-2 after 4 innings.
The Phillies then seized control of the game with a 3 run 6th inning to go up 7-2. The Braves would get one more in the 7th and the Phillies answered with one in the 8th to make the final 8-3.
Brandon Marsh had two hits and drove in three runs in the game, Bryce Harper had two hits and drove in two. J.T. Realmuto had two hits and drove in a pair as well. The Braves managed just four hits on the game and no Braves player had more than one hit in the game.
The loss marks the end of the Braves season and the end of their chance at a repeat. The Phillies move on to meet the San Diego Padres in the NLCS, that series starts Tuesday. The Padres eliminated the favored L.A. Dodgers three games to one with a 5-3 win on Saturday. The Braves series loss again proves how incredibly tough it is to repeat in Major League Baseball. No team has won back to back World Titles since the Yankees three-peat from 1998 through 2000.
