Dutch Fork was scheduled to play Irmo in Week 1 while Gaffney was scheduled to play Union County. Irmo & Union County both had to cancel their Week 1 game because of Covid, so that left no other choice than for these two power house programs to collide in late August.
Cole Bryson from ESPN Upstate reached out to Tom Knotts shortly after Imro canceled & informed Knotts that Gaffney was also looking for a game. Knotts replied back, "they won't play us".
On Thursday morning, things obviously changed. Tom Knotts & Dan Jones agreed to show the state what high school football is all about and the Silver Fox of Dutch Fork are coming to title town for Week 1. The Silver Fox have won 5 AAAAA State Titles in a row (6 total) while Gaffney has won 16 total. However, it has been 9 years since the Indians last title in a game where Gaffney defeated Dutch Fork 34-22.
22 State Championships combined. Tom Knotts vs Dan Jones. The old vs the new. Can Gaffney knock off the champs or will Dutch Fork continue their non-losing streak that dates back to 2017.
