A hall of fame football player at an Upstate university has died. The Clemson Athletic Department has announced that hall of famer Gary Barnes died Tuesday after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
The Alabama native played for Clemson Coach Frank Howard from 1959 to 1961. Barnes then was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 1962 NFL draft.
Barnes later helped legendary Coach Vince Lombardi and the Packers win an NFL Championship. Barnes played for four NFL teams over the course of his career. He later served as a Municipal Judge in Clemson for three decades.
Barnes was inducted in the Clemson Hall Of Fame in 2002 and the South Carolina Hall Of Fame in 2005.
