Big plays on defense at key times was the story as South Carolina got a hard fought win over Clemson in the Palmetto Bowl. The Gamecocks outlasted Clemson 17-14 at Death Valley on Saturday.
The Tigers struck 1st scoring early in the 2nd after a scoreless 1st quarter. SC then answered when Quarterback LaNorris Sellers scrambled 25 yards for a TD and the game went to the half tied at 7. Clemson scored in the 3rd to take a 14-7 the lead on Cade Klubnik's 2nd TD run. The Tigers took that lead into the 4th.
South Carolina got a Field Goal with 6:48 left to cut the lead to 14-10. Clemson's offense went 3 and out and South Carolina put together a late scoring drive.
They scored on the 2nd TD run of the game from Sellers. The Gamecocks took a 17-14 lead with 1:08 left to go. Clemson then drove the field but Gamecock LB Demetrius Knight Jr. picked off a Klubnik pass to seal the 17-14 win.
South Carolina finishes the regular season at 9-3 with the win. With the loss, Clemson moves to 9-3. The Tigers will take on SMU this Saturday night in Charlotte for the ACC Title. The winner will clinch a spot in the 12 Team Playoff.
