It sounds like Jim Harbaugh is staying at Michigan, the two sides nearing a five-year extension that will keep him in Ann Arbor through 2026.

Which means Harbaugh's next order of business is assembling what's expected to be a new-look coaching staff. Which means his top priority is defensive coordinator after Don Brown was let go last month.

And Harbaugh is looking toward his older brother for help.

According to AL.com, Michigan is targeting Ravens linebackers coach Mike Macdonald for its vacancy at defensive coordinator. Macdonald, 32, has spent the past seven years coaching under John Harbaugh in Baltimore.

The plan is for Macdonald to accept the Michigan job after the Ravens' season comes to an end, according to the NFL Network. Baltimore plays Tennessee in the Wild Card round on Sunday.

Macdonald was hired by Harbaugh as a defensive intern for the Ravens at the age of 25. He also served as a defensive assistant and defensive backs coach before taking over the linebackers in 2018.

Michigan's defense cratered under Brown last season, ranking 87th in the country in total defense and 95th in scoring defense. It had been a top-10 unit each of Brown's first four seasons.
