A NASCAR Hall of Fame driver has weighed in on the fate of the Greenville Pickens Speedway. The track was the site of NASCAR's first nationwide live TV race.

A group of developers is trying to win approval to convert the historic racetrack to an industrial park. Jackie Manley, a local business owner and former race driver , wants to buy it, but is waiting on loan approval.

Now NASCAR Legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. who currently owns a race team posted on X if the "GSP speedway can survive, the CARS Tour will be first in line to return and I'll be the first entry."

The CARS Tour is a Late Model Stock program mainly run in the southeast at various tracks including the Anderson Motor Speedway and Florence Motor Speedway in South Carolina.

The Pickens County Planning Commission has rejected plans to demolish the track for now. The developer could still submit a revised proposal.
