North GA native comes in at QB and helps Bulldogs win SEC

A North Georgia native came in at Quarterback and the helped the Bulldogs when the SEC Title by knocking off Texas for the 2nd time this season.

Sophomore Back up and former Rabun County star Gunner Stockton came in at the half for the injured Carson Beck. Georgia managed just 3 1st half points with Beck under center and trailed 6-3 at the half.


Stockton came in and went 3 of 4 passing and gained 12 yards on the ground in his 1st drive. RB Trevor Etienne then capped the drive with a 10 yard scoring run and Georgia led 10-6. The Bulldogs then got a field goal to finish the 3rd with a 13-6 lead.

Texas scored in the early 4th on a TD pass to tie it at 13. The two teams traded field goals down the stretch. Texas hit the game tying field goal with 18 seconds left and the game went to overtime.

In OT, Texas got another field goal to lead 19-16. Stockton then led the Dogs on a scoring drive to win the game. He picked up a 1st down inside the Texas 5 yard line with a gusty 8 yard run and took a brutal hit that knocked his helmet off. Beck came back in and handed it to Etienne who punched it in to win the game and the SEC Title, 22-19.

Stockton did throw an interception in the game but he finished 12 of 16 passing. He was 3 for 3 in the Overtime drive, finding Tight End Oscar Delp. After the post game interview with Stockton, Delp came in and gave Rabun County a shoutout.
