The Panthers fell Sunday to the defending Super Bowl Champs, L.A. Ram in the debut of Interim Head Coach Steve Wilks. Carolina was outscored 17-0 in the 2nd half of the 24-10 road loss. The Panthers were without QB Baker Mayfield, he missed the game with an ankle injury.
There were more fireworks on the sideline than on the field for the Panther offense. WR Robbie Anderson was sent to the locker room in the 2nd half by Interim Head Coach Steve Wilks. That came after a couple of heated exchanges between Anderson and Receivers Coach Joe Dailey.
The Panthers got on the board first, they got a 42 yard FG in the last and lead 3-0 after one quarter of play. The Rams then got a TD pass from Matt Stafford to Allen Robinson from 5 yards out to lead 7-3. Carolina then got a 30 yard pick 6 from DB Donte Jackson and led 10-3.
From there the Panthers offense was held scoreless and the Rams grabbed control of the game. The Rams got a field goal to tie it at 10 with a 21 yard FG. That FG capped a drive that took nearly 7 minutes and went 87 yards on 12 plays. Later in the 3rd, the Rams would go 80 yards and punch it in on a 1 yard TD run by Ben Skowronek. That gave L.A. a 17-10 lead going into the 4th.
They would put together another time consuming TD drive in the 4th. Derrell Henderson scored from 2 yards out with 8:15 left to make it 24-10. The Panther offense did not score a TD in the game and managed just 8 1st downs on the day. Carolina was outgained 360 to 203 and threw for just 110 yards.
The Panthers went with QB P.J. Walker for most of the reps on Sunday. He completed 10 of 16 attempts , but for just a total of 60 yards. Matt Stafford was 26 of 33 for the Rams, he threw for 253 yards, a TD and a pick. Former Georgia QB Jacob Eason saw game action Sunday, he was 3 of 5 for 59 yards and a pick. Both teams were even in turnover margin, giving it up once each.
The Panthers now fall to 1-5 on the season and still winless on the road. They are back in action on this weekend, when they host Tampa Bay. That game is set for a 1 PM kickoff on Sunday, you can hear every Panther game on Classic Rock 101.1 FM.
