South Carolina Lawmakers are taking a gamble on another sports betting bill. Pre-filed in the State's House of Representatives, lawmakers are taking another crack at a bill to legalize sports betting in South Carolina.

They tried in 2023, but bill HB 3749 was quickly squashed.  It's now back on the "books."

According to an article by The State, "Georgia does not allow sports betting, and North Carolina legalized it in March and raised $98.6 million in tax revenue in the first nine months."

This new bill, 3625, would put a cap on market size, limit operators to 8 licenses and set a priviledge tax at 12.5%.

Revenue from that tax would help set up programs statewide, such as treatment programs for those with gambling problems. In the past, Governor McMaster has been opposed to gambling legislation.

It's unclear when and if the new bill will be up for consideration, but The General Assembly is set to reassemble on January 14th.
