The man responsible for making Dabo Swinney Clemson's Head Football Coach has passed away. Clemson University has announced the death of former Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips. He served as Athletic Director at Clemson for a decade before retiring in 2012.
His tenure will always be remembered for taking a chance on promoting Dabo Swinney to Head Coach in 2008. Phillips previously worked at Oklahoma State, his Alma Mater Arkansas and other colleges before coming to Clemson.
His tenure is one bolstered by facility upgrades and 13 ACC Titles across 8 different sports in the Clemson Athletic Department. David Hood of TigerNet described Terry Don's approach as a blend of " A coach's eye with an administrator's vision".
