Todd Gurley's "reclamation tour" has three games left in it and is undoubtedly going to be viewed as a massive failure.
Gurley came to the Falcons hoping to grab the No. 1 running back role, prove to people his knee and declining athleticism wasn't a concern, and set himself up for another big contract.
Instead of doing any of that, Gurley is having the worst season of his career and will be hard-pressed to receive much interest next season.
Gurley's best game came in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers where he totaled 121 rushing yards and a TD. Things have only gotten worse since then and in his last three games he's had rushing totals of 26, 16, and 19.
He also appeared to run the wrong route in a key third-down situation leading to an intentional grounding penalty on Matt Ryan during Sunday's loss to the Chargers.
Atlanta Falcons analyst Dave Archer is wondering the same thing that many other fans are: Why don't we try to give some of the other guys a chance?
“What are we doing from a developmental standpoint with some of our young players? I want to see something different at running back,” says Dave Archer. “Ito Smith deserves an opportunity to be in the game, where’s Qadree Ollison? Bigger back that can run it and we’ve not seen him at all this year. I thought Todd Gurley was a liability yesterday."
