A woman known for being a trailblazer and pioneer during her time as an athlete at Clemson has died after a long running illness. University officials announced Sunday that Cindy Brakman passed away after battling cancer.
Brakman was inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. She was the 1st woman in school history to be named an All-American in track and cross country while at Clemson.
She helped the Woman's Track Program finish in the top 7 nationally three straight seasons from 1981 through 1983.
