Two Upstate area high school football teams captured state gold Thursday and two more are yet to play. Clinton took on Barnwell for the 2A State Title to kick off State Finals weekend in Orangeburg.
Clinton jumped out to a 21-6 lead and ran for over 300 yards in the game. It's the 1st State Title in Coach Corey Fountain's tenure and the 1st for the Clinton program in 15 years.
In Thursday's night cap Abbeville handled Cross 58-20 to win the 1A State Title. South Carolina Gamecock signee Damarcus Leach had two rushing TD's and a pick 6 on defense to lead the way for Abbeville. The win gives the Panther program its 9th State Title since 2010.
Defending 4A State Champs Westside will take on South Florence, Friday night. The Rams are looking for back-to-back State Titles for the 1st time in program history.
On Saturday BHP will take on Oceanside Collegiate for the 3A Title. The Bears are looking for their 1st State Title in 20 years.
