After Friday's 3rd round playoff games, high school football programs that are still playing now set their sights on the Upper State Title.
In 5A Division 1, Spartanburg High secured their spot by downing JL Mann 35 to 9. The Vikings will now turn their attention to perennial powerhouse Dutch Fork. The Silver Foxes are looking for their 3rd straight State Title and their 8th in the last 9 years.
In 5A Division 2, another traditional power has punched their ticket for the Upper State Title Game. The Gaffney Indians dropped T.L. Hanna 21-7 at the Reservation. Gaffney Coach Dan Jones has already announced his retirement effective at the end of this season. The Tribe will try to send Jones off in the sunset with another State Ring, but to do that they'll have to knock #1 seed Northwestern-Rock Hill on the road.
In 4A, defending State Champs Westside crushed Camden 49-7. They take on South Pointe- Rock Hill after South Pointe went on the road and downed Daniel 49-35.
In 3A, Mountain View Prep in Spartanburg County is in rarified air making the Upper State Title Game in their 1st year as a program. They'll meet BHP for a trip to State. The Bears knocked Powdersville out by a score of 35-14.
In 2A, Clinton will meet Fairfield Central. The winner will meet the winner of Barnwell vs Manning, in the State Finals December 12th. In 1A, powerhouse Abbeville who was realigned from 2A to 1A in the off season will take on Lewisville. Abbeville is looking for their 10th State Title in the last 15 years.
All of the Upper State Title Games are set for this Friday, December 6th. The State Finals are scheduled for December 12th-14th.
