Upstate area teams went 3-2 on Saturday the FCA I85 Showcase at Franklin County High School in Carnesville, Georgia. Unbeaten area teams Byrnes and Westside got wins and Wren also got a convincing win. Daniel and Dorman lost in very hard fought and competitive games.
Daniel opened the showcase and fell 73-68 to Shiloh (GA) in the day's opening game. Lion PG Sims Disbrow hit a 3 to cut the Shiloh lead to one with just seconds left. However, Daniel tried calling timeouts and didn't have any resulting in a technical foul that iced the win for Shiloh.
In Game two, unbeaten Westside pulled away down the stretch to beat the host team Franklin Count 79-65. Franklin County hung tough and was competitive trailing by just 5 early in the 4th quarter. However, Westside standout K'Mayjay Jenkins become the difference maker.
Jenkins is Class of 2027 nationally ranked recruit and he made plays on both ends. He had 27 points on the offensive end but also blocked 5 shots. Two of those blocks erased layups for Franklin County.
Jenkins looked the part playing above the rim getting highlight reels dunks and soaring above the square of the backboard to swat shots off the glass. The 6ft 6 Class of 2027 Wing is drawing interest from Clemson, SC, Auburn, GA Tech and others.
Defending 5A Upper State Champs Byrnes thumped Hueytown, Alabama 89-60. The Rebels scored 54 2nd half points. Class of 2027 Point Guard Colt Fowler had more than 10 assists.
Fowler's vision and passing precision was on display. Byrnes F Evan Enos is a 6ft 8 Coker signee who can shoot the outside shot. He got going in the 2nd half and Byrnes has multiple other guys on the floor that give them offensive contributions.
Habersham Central (GA) edged Dorman 62-60 in a highly competitive game that went down to the wire. Will Bush scored in double figures for Dorman. Guard Enzo Combs and Center JoJo McCurry led the way for Habersham Central.
Wren who many expect to make a deep postseason run in 4A had no trouble, they downed Myers Park, NC 76-59. Wren maintained a double digit lead much of the 2nd half. Furman signee Baba Franklin led the way for Wren with a game and showcase high 30 points. Myers Park had no answer for Franklin as he got to rim and finished all game long.
Saturday, marked the 2nd installment of the FCA I85 Battleground Showcase, after last year's initial event. This year really built on the foundation of last year's inaugural showcase. The event featured ranked teams from various states and about a dozen Division I prospects, throughout.
The showcase is incredibly well ran, Franklin County Coach Jason Shaver, his staff and the support staff there work hard to put on an amazing event. Most of that staff was there the entire day and the hospitality shown by the folks in Franklin County, is 1st class always.
