The Atlanta Braves announced yesterday that they’ve promoted and hired their longtime bench coach Walt Weiss as their manager yesterday, and even though some Braves fans are unhappy with the hire because they wanted the team to bring in a manager from outside of the organization that would bring a new voice and fresh perspective to Atlanta’s clubhouse, earlier today The Morning Shift explained why Weiss should be considered a good hire when you look at Braves recent success.
“The Braves have made these decisions right more than they have wrong so I have to trust.” Beau Morgan said
Beau continued his thought by talking about how the Braves, Falcons, and Atlanta United all have had a bunch of turnover throughout the recent history of their respective franchises, but even with that turnover the Braves have had sustained success.
“Those three organizations have had rapid turnover it feels like, and the Braves keep chugging along. They've had just four GMs in that time span, this is going to be the fourth manager and the Braves have two World Series, 20 division titles, like probably 24, 25, or more postseason appearances in that span.” Beau said
Beau finished his thought by addressing the fans that think Atlanta needed to hire a manager from outside of the organization to shake things up, and help the franchise win more World Series.
“If they want to shake it up to get more World Series there’s one thing they can do and really one thing only which is take off that little Liberty Media salary cap and start spending the money, but the voices in there that are winning and that are successful, they have a model that works, that makes money hand over fist, they’re there every single year, that model is not broken.” Beau said
The Braves already have a team that when healthy and playing up to their potential are World Series contenders every year. There’s no manager out there that Atlanta could’ve hired that will take them from being championship contenders every year to perennial World Series winners, or help them become a dynasty. Atlanta can only get over that hump once Liberty Media takes off their self imposed salary cap.
