A Western North Carolina man who broke racial barriers in college basketball has died at the age of 78. Western Carolina University announced the passing of former basketball star Henry Logan on Wednesday.
The Asheville native not only became the 1st black player at Western Carolina, but was the 1st at any predominantly white college in the Southeast.
In 1967, Logan helped the U.S. National Team win Gold at the Pan-AM games. He was taken by Seattle in the 1968 NBA draft and also spent time with two teams in the ABA.
Logan was inducted into the Hall Of Fame at Western Carolina in 1990 and was enshrined in the North Carolina Sports Hall Of Fame, along with original Panthers Owner Jerry Richardson and Duke's Coach K in 2000.
