(670 The Score) Chicago's two baseball teams are both hopeful to contend for the playoffs in 2020, and the final series of the 60-game regular season could decide whether they achieve that goal.

The White Sox will host the Cubs at Guaranteed Rate Field in a three-game series from Sept. 25-27 that may be crucial in whether either or both teams make the postseason. It's a series that created local interest when MLB released its schedule Monday evening and one that White Sox manager Rick Renteria hopes brings excitement in Chicago.

"Let's all embrace it as a city," Renteria said. "I know that most of Chicago would like to see a crosstown World Series someday. Maybe this will be a little taste of it. But all I know is we see our crosstown rivals as just another team that we have to do the best that we can to defeat on a daily basis."

MLB made adjustments for the shortened season during the coronavirus pandemic, turning to a regionalized schedule in which NL Central and AL Central teams cross over to play 20 interleague games. As part of that, the White Sox and Cubs will meet six times -- for a three-game series at Wrigley Field from Aug. 21-23 before ending the regular season against one another.

The White Sox open the regular season when they host the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field on July 24. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. CT. The Cubs open by hosting the Brewers at Wrigley Field on that same date. That game is scheduled to begin at 6:10 p.m. CT.

The White Sox and Cubs will also play two exhibition games July 19 and 20, with those split between Guaranteed Rate Field and Wrigley Field.
