(670 The Score) Stuck at home like those all across the country, White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson is making a point to carry the same attitude that he and his team had when spring training was abruptly halted in March by the coronavirus pandemic.
"We just must stay positive," Anderson said. "This will give us some more time to prepare. From what we had been doing, I feel we were ahead of other people already. Just think back to that and be ready when the time comes. We need to stay ready in the mind so when it is time to play, we will be prepared."
As MLB and the MLB Players Association continue to have discussions about when and how to return to play when the coronavirus spread slows, Anderson and fellow players have realized they may well be playing in empty stadiums when they come back.
"There is nothing we really can control," Anderson said. "We are just hearing about that now. It will take getting ready and finding the energy within. It would be different without fans, but I adjust to a lot of stuff easily. I am sure it won't be a problem."
Anderson, the American League batting champion in 2019, had a message for White Sox fans as well. He wants them to be ready, because the White Sox have big goals in 2020 after a busy offseason in which they added the likes of left-hander Dallas Keuchel, catcher Yasmani Grandal, designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion and others.
"They should stay prepared too," Anderson said. "We are going to need that same energy from them. I know they will be hungry to cheer us on. We are going to be hungry to play. So we will need both energies to match when we cross the lines. I know they are excited. I think their energy is going to be crazy. I just can't wait for it to happen."
