A former elected official in Gaffney is pushing for a new state law following the fatal shooting of a teenager at a bus stop there. 17 year old Jomiltron Fair Jr. also known as "June" was shot and killed at a bus stop, earlier this month.
Missy Reid Norris is calling on state lawmakers to adopt a bill entitled the "June Act". It would designate school bus stops as safety zones and call for harsher penalties for certain crimes committed at those locations. The former Gaffney City Councilwoman also wants more safety measures at bus stops including a larger police presence.
More than a dozen children were on the bus when the deadly shooting took place. June Fair's young life will be celebrated during a service at 1PM Saturday at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery.
