Child abductions are a living nightmare for every parent, yet three different abductions have been reported in the Upstate in just the last week. The 1st of those cases involved a 13 year old girl from Greenville County who was found after being taken to North Carolina.
Then just after that a 12 year old boy from the Upstate was reported missing after disappearing while in Hilton Head with his family. The boy was found two days later in Texas. Details surrounding those cases remain limited. The third and most highly publicized was the abduction of Riley Berryhill, a 12 year old girl from Spartanburg County who was found in Arkansas.
The man who allegedly abducted her 31 year old, Brandon Lee Britten has been arrested. Spartanburg County Sheriff Bill Rhyne says the girl was groomed on social media by the predator prior to her abduction.
Officials warn that parents should be vigilant in regards to child grooming on social media. Law enforcement recommends using apps to monitor your child's online activity. Officials say that the children in all three of those recent cases in the Upstate have been reunited with their families.
