Fourth time’s the charm in the case of an Upstate mother who received parole after killing her abusive boyfriend, six years ago. Tiffany Carroll of Greenwood pleaded guilty but mentally ill to manslaughter of her then-boyfriend William Jamaal Johnson in 2019.

During the investigation, Carroll was diagnosed with battered woman syndrome, a form of PTSD often linked to living with an abuser, and police records showed multiple past incidents.

District 13 State Representative John McCravy has been leading the charge to get Carroll paroled. He joined Sunrise Carolina with Joey Hudson, Thursday morning to talk about the situation.

McCravy said "She had been abused over and over again by this man. They had called the law to the house at least 8 times, before this happened. It's tough in South Carolina to get parole for anybody. I've never asked for early release for anybody, but there's always a first and an exception for everything. This lady needed to get back home to Greenwood to take care of her five children."
