Huh?  Those are words that you don’t often see together, right? Right. But then you don’t often encounter a vehicle like Hyundai’s Ioniq 6. Well, it’s just a big comfy 4-door sedan…right? Half right.

Press “Sport”, and 0-60 comes up in around 4.5 seconds thanks to 320 HP and all-wheel-drive.  But it gets there quietly.   No drama…just quiet composed control.  If you weren’t paying attention, you might have expected to see a star or a kidney shaped grill in front.

So what is it that makes the Ioniq 6 such an appealing package?

It’s how the Ioniq 6 can excel in just about any role from a traffic light challenge to a 600 miles in one day road trip with teens in the back to just helping you keep your poise during a two-hour-accidents-everywhere WAZE re-routed commute. Let’s start with the looks. Hyundai’s all-new Ioniq 6 is an ultra-aerodynamic roomy 4-door with 20’s, spoilers, and LED lighting.  While I always say that looks are subjective, I see a little bit of “Bad Boy” in this machine. So what’s inside?

Just about all the goodies that you’ve come to expect…things like digital keys offering remote pre-heating and cooling, remote parking assist, even the ability to send your vehicle info via smartphone to someone else for them to operate while you’re not there.

But here’s even more:  Dynamic voice recognition…no-charge over-the-air software updates…three years of no-charge remote access…three years of free maintenance…you’ve even got the ability to charge your laptops or operate air pumps from your vehicle!

So how ‘bout one of the biggest electric vehicle questions…range?

The entry-level just under 40K “SAE” with 149 HP will give you 240 miles.

There’s a Mid $40’s RWD version that claims up to 342 miles.

Our top of the line test AWD limited with 320 HP had a 270 mile range…pretty competitive with everything that’s on the market these days.

Hyundai built their Ioniq 6 to handle 800V fast charging.   This is the system that’ll take you from a 10% charge up to 80% in under 20 minutes.   20 minutes?

That just about makes time a non-issue.  Heck…if you’re lucky enough to get your charge at a Buc-ee’s, you’lI want to spend more than 20 minutes there.

I got a little EVGO boost in peak time on a Saturday and added 70 miles of range for $6.95.   That quick “fill-up” took only a few minutes…and it’s still a little less than what you’d spend on 70 miles worth of gasoline in a 25 MPG luxury vehicle.

All I’m sayin’ is that charging is becoming less and less of an issue every day.  Even Walmart plans to open thousands of charging stations over the coming few years.

So as more and more all-electric questions seem like they’re being put to rest, vehicles like Hyundai’s new Ioniq 6 just become more and more appealing.

If you’ve in the market for one, it’ll pay you to make your move before the $7,500 tax credits expire at the end of September…altho’ there’s an additional credit for buying a home charger, and that won’t expire until June 30, 2026.
