The ATL is still mourning the loss of DJ Unk, one of the hip hop artists that played a crucial role in taking ATL's sound to a national level.

DJ Unk, is responsible for global snap music hits like "Walk It Out" and "2 Step," but his musical journey started right here in the ATL. Unk started out as a DJ, and his involvement with Big Oomp Records, an Atlanta-based independent label, worked to push his persona and music out to the forefront.

DJ Unk also gained popularity though his involvement with Oomp Camp Live, a TV show he was featured on with Dj Jelly, and DJ Montey that brought exclusive interviews, events, new music, new artists to ATL TV screens.

In 2006, DJ Unk's debut album, Beat'n Down Yo Block!, was released. This is the album that featured the breakout single "Walk It Out," a song that's popularity led to a high-profile remix that featured André 3000 of OutKast and Jim Jones and global notoriety. His follow-up single, "2 Step," also received a remix that went global once T-Pain and E-40 hopped on the track.

DJ Unk's contributions to the snap music subgenre was a huge driving force of the Southern hip-hop movement of the 2000's era. Beyond his music, DJ Unk was a person who was very active in the community and he even took time to mentor un and coming artists. Because of all this, his legacy will continue to live on here in the ATL and worldwide for generations to come.
