Falcons can't afford to risk bringing in a disgruntled Bill Belichik

Rumors continue to swirl around the Falcons being interested in bringing aboard Bill Belichick as their new head coach. No formal interview has been announced yet, but Belichick did officially leave his post in New England on Thursday after a press conference was held to announce his departure. Owner Arthur Blank is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing in one of the greatest coaches of all time despite being 72-years-old and a poor track record over the last handful of seasons.

The issue with Belichick, however, is that he can represent the exact opposite of what is needed at Flowery Branch if the circumstances are not to his liking out of the gate. Should the team start slow, we can expect the classic Belichick press conferences and demeanor around the team. His curt and sometimes calas relationship with the media and fanbase does not represent the type of spark the franchise needs after failing to reach the playoffs since 2017.

There is no mistaking Belichick’s resume. He is, simply put, on the Mount Rushmore of NFL coaches. But the teams that he had the most success with are becoming less and less relevant as we approach more than a decade away from the team’s featuring Randy Moss breaking records with Tom Brady. The Falcons need an energetic coach to inspire the players and make sure the team pushes through to the most modern age of football, especially while they usher in a new quarterback this offseason. If Belichick does not play nice, it could be a disaster.
