The NBA trade deadline has come and gone and the Atlanta Hawks indeed made moves as many fans hoped they would, however those moves included trading De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic in return for Caris Levert, Georges Niang, Terrance Mann, Bones Hyland and a few second-round picks, and for some the trades seem a bit underwhelming and leave to question what the moves say about the future of the franchise.
“Here’s the problem Sandra, what is the plan?”, Abe Gordon asked Sandra Golden on Friday as they shared their thoughts on the Hawks’ trades and Gordon noting his concern on how Trae Young’s future with the team may be impacted by the trades. “And if I’m Trae Young, don’t you have to be asking the same thing?”, Gordon said, adding Trae Young could be growing impatient with the team and their efforts to build a championship contending team.
“Obviously the best player on this team, his career is being wasted here in Atlanta and if he believes that they can formulate a plan, if Landry (Fields) and the group has a plan that they can present to Trae Young that he believes in, it doesn’t have to come t this,” Gordon said as he likened Young possibly taking a Myles Garrett approach, in which he recently requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, citing their failure to compete for a Super Bowl.
“If he doesn’t like their response, he’s the NBA’s Myle’s Garrett,” Gordon said as he explained why he believes the Hawks have to convince Young they are fully vested in building a championship caliber team with him and sooner than later.
