Think Falcons should trade up? History says otherwise

The 2023 season saw the Atlanta Falcons put their faith in second-year QB Desmond Ridder. Needless to say that was a mistake. The good news, you now know you need a new QB. The bad news, the Falcons won a few too many games to lock in a top-five pick, taking them out of the race for one of the best prospects. Trading up for one of those prospects will cost a king's ransom, but is it worth it? Recent history tells a different story.

Caleb Johnson, host of "The Dopey Millennial Show," shared his thoughts and the facts on how most of the teams that traded up for their signal-callers ended up with nothing but buyer's remorse.

Since 2011, there have been 13 instances where a team traded up in the first round to draft the face of their franchise. Nine of those quarterbacks are no longer on the team that drafted them, with Justin Fields poised to be the 10th.

Three straight seasons of 7-10 finishes, and an unceremonious exit for the former face of the franchise, Matt Ryan, have fans starved for a playmaker. The Falcons, being a team that feels it can take advantage of a weak division with the right guy under center, could be desperate enough to feed them.

Jayden Daniels seems to be the popular name in Atlanta and the Falcons are within shouting distance of being able to nab him if they want to mortgage the future. However, history says Jayden Daniels is more likely to be a Sam Darnold than a Josh Allen.
