Earlier this week Atlanta Falcons Defensive Line Coach Nate Ollie said Da’Shawn Hand will be the line’s “final boss.” When asked how Hand got the nickname Ollie said “He got it right when we was doing like OTAs and they started running through the A gap, big dude couldn’t nobody move him, like alright you the final boss. He’s gotta be the Kingpin for us.”
Earlier today The Morning Shift reacted to what Coach Ollie had to say and explained why they think the Falcons D-Line coach is hinting at the type of adjustments that are going to be made in the run defense this season.
“Maybe now they are gonna go to a little bit more size and plug the hole and then that way you can’t necessarily have these gaping holes that they can just run right through like a freaking bus. This might be a little bit of a meshing of schemes.” Beau Morgan said
The Falcons defense was much improved last season, but the area that Jeff Ulbrich’s unit struggled in last year was run defense as they ranked 24th in the NFL in rush defense last year giving up an average of 126.2 rushing yards per game to their opponents, but between what Nate Ollie said earlier this week and some of the defensive acquisitions the Falcons made this offseason, i.e. Da’Shawn Hand and Maason Smith, it looks like Coach Ulbrich, Coach Ollie, and the entire Falcons defensive staff is committed to improving the run defense this season.
