White Sox leave Lopez, Gonzalez off wild-card round roster, include Garcia, Collins

(670 The Score) The White Sox left right-hander Reynaldo Lopez and left-hander Gio Gonzalez off the 28-man roster for their wild-card round series against the Athletics and did include infielder Leury Garcia and catcher Zack Collins.

Lopez has struggled mightily this season, posting a 6.49 ERA in eight starts. Gonzalez exited the White Sox’s regular-season finale Sunday with left shoulder soreness and hasn’t recovered yet.

Garcia rejoins the White Sox after being out since Aug. 10 due to thumb sprain. Collins was included as a third catcher for the White Sox after going 1-for-16 while appearing in nine games.

As expected, rookie left-hander Garrett Crochet made the roster after a strong performance late in the regular season. Crochet is unscored upon in six innings this season and is expected to be used in a high-leverage role out of the bullpen.
