BUFFALO (WBEN - Brendan Keany) - Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo provided an update on the two weekend homicides that left a 16-year-old boy and a 25-year-old man dead.
The victims were a part of separate and unconnected shootings, according to Rinaldo, as the 16 year old was killed following an altercation at a graduation party on Oakmont Street around 7:30 pm on Saturday, while the 25 year old was killed in what appears to be a more targeted incident on Greenwood Place at about 9:30 pm on Saturday.
Detectives are on scene of a male shot in the vicinity of Greenwood and West Delevan. His injuries appear serious in nature. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the confidential tip line at 716 847-2255.
— Buffalo Police Dept (@BPDAlerts) June 30, 2019In the case of the graduation party shooting, Rinaldo says there has been a ton of community cooperation.
"We are seeing incredible cooperation in that case," he began. "I really have to say that people have been coming out and cooperating, and the tipline is receiving a ton of updates as well as people coming forward and calling our homicide unit and ensuring that we get the cooperation that we need...When you have an event with a lot of people, we believe there may have been as many 100 people at this party, there are a lot of people to interview and a lot of things to put together in order to bring that case to conclusion, but we are making great progress."
As for the Greenwood Place shooting...
"Without getting into too much detail, I'd like to say that we know that incident was not a random act of violence; we know that it was a targeted event that occurred," he said. "Again, anybody that may have seen anything in relation to that event, we're asking them to reach our confidential tipline at 847-2255."
Rinaldo also confirmed that there are persons of interest in both cases at this time.
