Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - Police in the Town of Amherst are investigating a late night one-car crash on Millersport Highway near John James Audubon Parkway that claimed the lives of three, and left an 18-year old female driver and a 17-year-old male passenger hospitalized at ECMC.

An 18-year-old male, a 19-year-old female and a 20-year-old male were all killed in the accident and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Amherst Police Captain Kevin Brown says the vehicle left Millersport Highway near the parkway on the University at Buffalo campus.

"Speed may have been a factor, but there's still work that we have to do to figure out for sure," said Capt. Brown on Tuesday.

It's unknown if the three victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. None of the victims were immediate residents of Amherst and none were students at the University at Buffalo.

As for the conditions of the driver and 17-year-old passenger, Brown believes neither suffered any sort of life-threatening injuries.

Police are canvassing for video of the crash, which occurred at approximately 11:22 p.m. EST, and are asking any nearby residents with information to come forward by calling the Amherst Police Department at (716)-689-1311.

The Getzville Fire Department and Twin City Ambulance assisted at the crash scene.
