Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Public Works Commissioner Nate Marton updated city residents on Tuesday of efforts to prepare for the next blast of wintry weather.
Another 1-to-3 feet of snow could fall between now and Thursday, with heavy snow, gusty winds, and poor visibility expected.
"The storm has the potential to be different than this past weekend storm from the standpoint that it may be narrower in focus," warned Mayor Brown.
Brown advises residents should be ready for a lot of snow and difficult driving conditions.
"Residents going out to work tomorrow should leave extra time for your snow shoveling and for your commute into work. We don't want people rushing and potentially getting into accidents," said Brown.
Marton says the snow could start to fall in the City of Buffalo late Tuesday night.
"From that point on, we will have snowfall that is impacting the city estimated 18 to 24, up to 30 (inches), maybe even more three feet, potentially, if that band sits in one spot, and that rate of snow is intense coming off the lake," said Marton.
Marton adds South Buffalo and Kaisertown were hardest hit, and crews are already at those locations.
The Mayor is also urging residents to prepare and to make sure they are in a safe place when the snow begins.
Three Emergency Warming Shelters in the city are open at this time. The locations are Tosh Collins Community Center, Peter Machnica Center and the JFK Recreation Center. More locations may open depending on conditions.
Public Works crews are concluding clean-up from this past weekend’s storm. In preparation for the upcoming Lake Effect Snow, crews have also been pre-salting and preparing the roads.
In addition, several city parking ramps will be open for those who need parking. The available parking ramps are Adam Ramp, Mohawk Ramp, Turner Ramp, and Fernbach Ramp. There will also be several city parking lots available in residential areas.
