New York (WBEN) - Authorities have charged a 20-year-old Bronx man in connection with the Nov. 16 shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd after the suspect surrendered in an Amherst apartment complex on Monday.
Frederick Green, who was considered "a person of interest" in the shooting, faces several felony charges following his surrender in Amherst during the early morning hours of Dec. 8.
Green, allegedly, shot Boyd following, what authorities described in an email to WBEN, as "a dispute turned violent."
Green is charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He will be tried in New York City, officials said.
In a release from the U.S. Marshal's Office, Green was found in Amherst following a multi-jurisdictional police investigative task force. He was spotted in a second-floor apartment.
As police forces began to quietly evacuate the apartment building, Green was seen peering out of a window and "looking for an escape avenue," according to the U.S. Marshal's Office release.
With the evacuation in place, Green peacefully left the apartment with "his hands up," the U.S. Marshals' release said.
"The safe arrest of this dangerous shooting suspect was made possible through outstanding investigative teamwork," the U.S. Marshals' release said.
In addition to the U.S. Marshals office, other police agencies involved included the New York Police Department, New York State Police, Buffalo Police Department, Niagara Falls Police Department, Erie County Sheriff's Office and Niagara County Sheriff's Department.
Boyd, who was shot in the abdomen, is recovering.
