Akron, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 77-year-old male was issued several tickets in Akron on Thursday after he unknowingly entered the town's Fourth of July parade.

Village of Akron police say the man, driving a Honda SUV, entered the parade route despite numerous road blocks and road closure signs being posted. He then began following a patrol vehicle at the tail of the parade before driving on to the shoulder, passing the cop car and several fire trucks, all of which had their emergency lights on.

Police say there were numerous parade attendees on the shoulder and children on the road when the incident happened.

An Akron Police officer was eventually able to pull the vehicle over.

Police interviewed the driver who told them, "he did not know that it was a parade, and that, at first, it appeared to be an emergency scene."

Police say the driver also told them, "It was going too slow, so I passed them."

The man was issued several tickets, and Akron Police requested a driver review.
