Amid reports that the Jets may have interest in wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins after Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Ravens, Tiki and Tierney wondered if the five-time Pro Bowler would be a fit in New York.
“Hopkins is due $15 million in 2023 and $20 million in 2024,” BT said. “It doesn’t seem this way, but he’s actually older than Odell Beckham Jr. by a few months.”
Still, even as he is about to hit 31 years old and has played just 19 games over the last two seasons, Tiki believes there is value.
“You could question whether or not his game is still at a high level, but he’s still an alpha,” Tiki said. “He get open and he makes catches when it’s clutch. So, would he be valuable? Yeah. Would he be the game-breaker I was clamoring for with Odell Beckham Jr. to the Jets? Probably not.
“I love Garrett Wilson. I think he’s gonna be fantastic…Mecole Hardman, I like him, a nice addition. Allen Lazard, I like him, but people are inflating him to be this superstar, and he’s not that. There needs to be another playmaker for the Jets…if you’re going all in with Aaron Rodgers, you might as well go all the way in.”
It seems tough to imagine that Gang Green would meet the Cardinals’ asking price for Hopkins while still trying to finalize a deal for Aaron Rodgers, but BT agrees that if the Jets are going all in on next season, why not add another weapon on offense?
“Don’t you think the Jets need to do something else here?” BT said.
