Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - Once again this offseason, I'll be examining the state of each position as the Buffalo Bills and its players look toward free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit.
As usual, we'll start things off with a look at the quarterbacks:

Under contract:
- Josh Allen
- Shane Buechele

Pending free agents:
- Kyle Allen

State of the position:
The only pertinent discussion about Josh Allen this offseason is whether or not the team will restructure his contract to create more salary cap space. Allen is scheduled to count for over $47 million against the team's salary cap, but the Bills can convert most of his base salary into a signing bonus and take that number down to below $30 million.
That seems like something they'll be doing, at least in some capacity, if not all of it.
Buechele has never taken a snap in an NFL regular season game. He spent his first two seasons in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, but was released at the end of last year’s training camp and signed with the Bills' practice squad, spending all season there.
He has signed a Reserve/Future contract to come back in 2024 and compete for the backup role.
Kyle Allen is a pending unrestricted free agent.
It shouldn’t take anything more than a veteran minimum deal to re-sign him, if the team wants him back. There shouldn’t be a huge market for him elsewhere.
Given his knowledge of the system and working relationship with Josh Allen and offensive coordinator Joe Brady, that seems very possible.
If it's not Kyle Allen, the Bills will almost certainly have another veteran backup quarterback in camp.
There's also the possibility they like someone enough in the draft in the later rounds to compete for a spot, but typically they only carry three quarterbacks on their 90-man roster.
