Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Yet another Buffalo Bills player has been named an AFC Player of the Week over the course of the 2024 season.
Following his Week 10 performance against the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, Bills nickel cornerback Taron Johnson has earned the honor for AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Johnson played a huge role in the Bills' 30-20 win over the Colts. He kick-started Buffalo's scoring with an interception of quarterback Joe Flacco that was returned for touchdown on the very first snap on defense.
The veteran corner also registered a sack later in the game, becoming the first Bills defensive back and just the fifth defensive player in team history to register a sack and a pick-six in the same game.
When all was said and done on Sunday, Johnson recorded three tackles, his sack, two passes defended and his interception returned for a touchdown.
Johnson's interception marked the first time since 2013 that the Bills had a pick-six on the opponent's opening drive. It was also the first time since 1991 where the Bills had a pick-six on the opponent's first offensive play of the game.
The 28-year-old has been one of the anchors for the Bills defense since he was drafted by in fourth round (121st overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Weber State University. Just this past season, Johnson was been named a Second-team All-Pro at the cornerback position.
This marks the first time in Johnson's seven-year career he has been named the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week. He's the fifth member of the Bills this season to be named an AFC Player of the Week, joining Greg Rousseau, James Cook, Josh Allen, and Tyler Bass.
The Bills will next face the 9-0 Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. Kickoff is slated for 4:25 p.m. EST.
