DETROIT (WWJ) - A group of crooks got away empty handed but caused plenty of damage during an attempted smash-and-grab robbery at a pharmacy on Detroit's west side.
The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the City Pharmacy on McNichols Road just east of the Southfield Freeway.
Five suspects used a stolen SUV to bust through the pharmacy's front gate.
Sam, who owns the pharmacy, said the suspects went after controlled substances but they weren't able to get any. They left plenty of damage, though.
"As you see, I try to secure the pharmacy all around. I thought this was enough, the gate that I have was safe enough, but obviously it wasn't," Sam told WWJ's Charlie Langton.
The suspects fled the scene in an older model Tahoe and remain at large.
Police are now reviewing surveillance footage of the incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
