Five Shootings In Four Hours In Detroit

(WWJ) Detroit police are investigating five shootings that happened in a four-hour window Thursday night.

In one incident, someone was shot when a friend was cleaning a gun that went off inside a home on Grandmont Street, near Joy and Southfield. That victim is hospitalized in stable condition.

In another incident, a 49-year-old man was driving his Dodge Challenger near McNichols and Wyoming when a gunman in a Dodge Durango opened fire, striking him several times. His condition is unknown.

Detroit heads into Labor Day in a pandemic and following a summer full of violence, including weekends with numerous shootings.

A month ago, Police Chief James Craig said Detroit had ten homicides, and 39 nonfatal shootings in the previous seven days.
