DETROIT (WWJ) -- The man accused of shutting down I-94 in Detroit for a viral pre-Christmas stunt finally faced a judge Tuesday.
Devin Ray Cronk was arraigned in 36th District Court on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and disturbing the peace.
Cronk, of Allen Park, was charged in late December several days after he allegedly shut down traffic on I-94 and did donuts and burnouts in the middle of the freeway in a red Chevy Camaro.
A video went viral on social media, with the person filming the video shouting "we on 94 wit it." That phrase was a reference to a similar incident last summer that caused a traffic back-up on the John C. Lodge Freeway, that had several people shouting "we on the Lodge wit it."
The incident, which happened around 8 p.m. on Dec. 22 on the westbound lanes near Trumbull Avenue, "was endangering citizens," according to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
"This is a new area; this sideshow activity is fairly new. I think they find it very exciting to take over a local freeway system and then post it on Facebook," Detroit Police Chief James Craig said back in December. "It's not exciting. It's a very dangerous public safety disaster ready to happen."
Cronk was identified by police as the suspect and he was approached by officers on Christmas Day, before fleeing. He eventually turned himself in on Jan. 2 and received a $100 cash bond.
The 22-year-old Cronk is set to appear in court again on Thursday before Judge Kenneth King.
