DETROIT (WWJ) - A driver wanted for doing donuts on I-94 in Detroit turned himself in to authorities.

Detroit police said 22-year old Devin Cronk of Allen Park, whose name and photo were released last week, was in custody Thursday.

Investigators allege that Cronk was driving a red Chevy Camaro seen on video posted to social media that went viral just before Christmas.

The incident, referred to as "360 activity" by police, took place on westbound I-94 at Trumbull, when police said a roving band of drivers blocked traffic so they could spin out dangerously and cheer each other on.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, on Dec, 22, at approximately 8 p.m. it is alleged that Cronk was driving a car doing donuts in the middle of I-94 while other drivers were on the road.  While he was doing this, it is alleged that he was endangering citizens who were near his car.

While some drivers covered their license plates with signs using an expletive to refer to the DPD, police said Cronk's plate -- EBZ 5973 -- was captured on video, which led to his identification.  Prosecutors said he was approached by police officers and fled on foot on Christmas Day.

He has been charged with Reckless Driving and Disturbing the Peace, prosecutors said, and received a $100 cash bond. Because the charges are misdemeanors, he will receive a court date in the near future.

Police Chief James Craig vowed that if Cronk was caught and convicted his Camaro would be confiscated and turned into a squad car.

"This is a new area; this sideshow activity is fairly new. I think they find it very exciting to take over a local freeway system and then post it on Facebook," Craig said. "It's not exciting. It's a very dangerous public safety disaster ready to happen."

As the investigation into the incident continues, anyone with information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department’s Commercial Auto Thief Unit at 313-596-2555. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
