(WWJ) A teenage medical student was gunned down while riding her bicycle in Detroit, but police believe she was not the intended target.
Detroit Police are searching for unknown suspects in a red Ford Taurus in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Tikiya Allen on Wednesday.
According to investigators, the car pulled up to a home in the 2500 block of Pingree St. near Linwood at 4:40 p.m., and someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Allen and a 20-year-old man.
Allen later died of her injuries. The man was listed in temporary serious condition at a local hospital and was expected to recover.
Allen's family says she was a nursing student at Oakland University, and that she wanted to become an anesthesiologist.

Interim Detroit police Chief James White told reporters that the teen was an innocent bystander.
"We know that Miss. Allen was not the intended target," White said, at a Friday news conference. "We know that this beautiful young lady was enjoying the summer on a bicycle, as I indicated, and she was struck and unfortunately killed."
White said investigators believe this was not a random shooting, and that someone other than Allen was being targeted.
"It appears, all indications, that she was caught in the crossfire, (killed by) someone who made a horrible decision to use a weapon to resolve whatever dispute that they were having," White said.
As the investigation continues, police are hoping that someone in the public will come forward with information about the car or its occupants
"We need you to speak up!" the department pleaded on social media.
