WARREN (WWJ) -- Two people, including a recent graduate of Warren's Cousino High School, have died following a crash on the campus of Macomb Community College.
According to Warren Police, multiple 911 calls came in at around 1:20 p.m. Monday from witnesses reporting that an SUV had rolled over in the area of 12 Mile Rd. and Hayes Rd. on MCC's South Campus in Warren.
Warren Police and EMS responders arrived to find the SUV west of Hayes and south of 12 Mile, on MCC property, with both occupants of the vehicle dead on the scene.
While police are not releasing the victims' names at this time, the driver has been identified as a 46-year-old Warren man, and the passenger as an 18-year-old Warren resident who recently graduated from Cousino.
Investigators are still in the process of notifying the victims' family members, the police department said.
Police said a preliminary investigation found that that the driver of the SUV may have suffered a medical emergency before he struck several vehicles and objects, which caused the SUV to roll several times.
While Warren Police accident investigators remained on the scene later in the afternoon, the public was asked to seek an alternate route to avoid 12 Mile Rd. from Schoenherr to Hayes. Road sin the area have since reopened.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer in a statement said an autopsy will be performed so that investigators can learn more about what happened.
"It is unfortunate any time there is a traffic crash fatality in the City of Warren. Our investigators will work together with the Medical Examiner's Office to determine what factors contributed to this horrible tragedy," Dwyer said. "My condolences go out to the victim and their family during this unimaginably difficult time."
