WESTLAND (WWJ) - Police say they're looking for two men who walked into a Westland Ace Hardware on the same day, placed items in backpacks and left without paying.
The Westland Police Department said on social media that the two incidents occurred within hours of each other on Sept. 19 and while they're unsure if they're related, the crimes were committed in an similar fashion.
"On September 19th, 2022, two suspects entered Ace Hardware, located at 132 S Merriman," officials said in a release. "While inside of the store, both suspects selected several tools and pieces of merchandise. The suspects then concealed the items into a backpack before leaving the store without offering any form of payment for the items."
According to police, the first suspect entered the store around 1:45 p.m. He is described as a white male wearing glasses with a short "buzzed cut" hair and was caught on surveillance footage wearing a gray shirt with a black lanyard, gray backpack, black shorts with three white stripes down the side, tall white knee socks and dark colored shoes.
He can be seen on video with tattoos on left forearm.
The second suspect entered the store almost three hours later at 4:20 p.m. Police described him as a white male with short hair, wearing 'Canton High School' shirt, dark colored pants, white shoes.
He was also captured on surveillance camera with tattoos displayed on his left forearm.
